The $5 billion Net Zero Fund, announced as part of the Industry Sector Plan, is part of the Australian Government’s approach to driving decarbonisation, unlocking new manufacturing investment, and improving energy affordability in hard-to-abate sectors of the Australian economy.

The fund has been designed to:

  • Support large industrial firms to decarbonise energy-intensive parts of their operations; and
  • Support investment in the scale-up of domestic manufacturing of low emissions technologies.

The Net Zero Fund has a lower benchmark rate of return to enable the NRFC to invest in earlier-stage proposals, first-of-a-kind projects, or those with large upfront capital requirements and longer repayment periods compared to investments made under the NRFC’s General Fund.
